I do not know too much about plant sterols at this time but they seem to be much safer option to help lower cholesterol. After initiation and/or upon titration of LIPITOR, lipid levels should be analyzed within 2 to 4 weeks and dosage adjusted accordingly. I am only 63 but feel like an old woman. 50 to $3 a day, while simvastatin sells for 75 cents to $1 a day at most retail pharmacies, and as little as 10 cents a day at discount pharmacies like Costco’s. I had other joint pain (fingers,elbows, wrists) By afternoon/evening I have trouble standing up straight and walking. Yes, my cholesterol shot back upto 240 without Lipitor, but I am now on an organic, glutamine -free diet, mainly vegetables, fish and fruit, oatmeal every day, CoQ10 Omega 3 and lots of vitamin C and hoping to keep it somewhat under control.

Am heading back to the doctor's office next Thursday, December 14, to diagnose and document. The events in italics occurred in 2% of patients and the events in plain type occurred in 2% of patients. Adjustment of dosage should be made at intervals of 4 weeks or more. Just had dose raised to 20 mg and my arrhythmia seems to be bothering me more. My wife has been discouraging me from taking Lipitor which I have been taking along with Norvasc, Metformin for last 3+ years. I personally feel more time should have been spent studying this medicine. I also take 50 mg Tenormin each morning for blood pressure but have backed off to alternate days also.
There is very little evidence they do much good.
After a few weeks, I complained about unusual pains in my upper right leg and right hip. Also, triglycerides have a minimal effect (if any) on increasing cardiac risk. I did get some better with physical therepy and now go to curves to keep myself moving. Others have reported serious liver and kidney damage. Graveline then suggests that this may all be worth it IF THERE WOULD BE A BENEFIT in survival from taking statin drugs like Lipitor or Zocor, but there is no such clear benefit. When discussed with my doctor,I was ordered a neck x-ray which showed general age related deterioration and I was told to just put up with the pain and it will subside in time. My GP and heart specialist both thought these were possibly from the heart surgery. Unbelievable!!

Since that time he developed appalling short term memory problems and could not think through relatively simple problems without a great effort. My Doctor informed me that "No you don't get Tinnitus from Zocor or Lipitor". However, this past weekend I experienced the rare side effect of extreme pain in my thigh muscles; so bad I went to the emergency room. My mail order prescription (90 day supply) was recently running out of the 20mg Lipitor, but I found an old bottle of the 10mg dose and started taking it until I identified a new doctor and got a new prescription. I went to the my doctor with pain down right leg and hip, cramping all over the body even chest muscles.

I've been on 10 Mg of Lipitor for the past 3-4 years and can't directly attribute Lipitor to any of the various health problems I've had. The more I read the more similarities I see with my condition. Lipitor is somewhat more potent mg for mg, but they have similar side effects and lowering of cholesterol.
